If you ever need a meaningful therapy session, which would also provide the most relaxing time, all you need to do is take a class with the Sketchbook Series!
I had fallen utterly in love with this company a few years back when I started following them on Instagram, @thesketchbookseries. It was a dream to see the fine details of a drawn wine or the lightly colored strokes of a marker lighting a cake. So, when I found out that they would come to Cabo San Lucas for a quick crash course, I was thrilled… and at the same time, a bit scared. I was never very confident about my drawing skills, but after speaking with Mary, my soon-to-be teacher, she brought out that inspiration in me to try something new.
The One&Only Palmilla resort hosted our small class and greeted our morning session with the most delicious breakfast, gleaming with beautiful colors and flavors, laced with exceptional service. Surprisingly, I was the only wedding planner in the class! Our first challenge for the day was to draw a delicious, white two-layered cake. I was a bit nervous, but Mary led the class with absolute confidence, finesse, and expertise. She had incredible guiding energy, and her passion for sketching was incredibly contagious. So contagious, in fact, that I finished the sketch of my cake before I even realized!
After an equally delicious lunch, an array of desserts and snacks became just the motivation we needed for the second part of the class. The second challenge of the day was a table covered by a rose-colored mantel, transparent chairs with yellow cushions, and a splendid display of flowers. It was a bit more of a challenge, but I was very proud and relieved that I had conquered my doubts once I successfully completed my sketch.
The second day brought on an even stronger challenge, with a table mounted with papayas, delicate plates and cups, candles and a blossom of flowers. Lola and Let It Be Rentals created this beautiful display that got me very inspired! Mary, inspiring as always, guided our hand and made us experiment beyond our comfort zone. Each element was a puzzle in itself, but little by little it all came together spectacularly.
The course was short but incredibly rich – one of the best I have ever taken. My colleagues and teacher made this even more brilliant than I could have ever hoped. Much so that I believe I am quite ready for the second level!
Love always,
Fatima, Cabo San Lucas Wedding Planner
