Julia & Sam’s Magical Wedding Under the Stars in Cabo Pulmo

Julia and Sam’s unique wedding celebrations lasted four days in one of the most untouched and magical places of Baja – Cabo Pulmo.  To a quaint little town with 200 inhabitants, they brought another 150 wedding guests, and made sure that the entire town celebrated with them!

The magic of Cabo Pulmo is not only in the magical landscapes and sea, being named a National Marine Park by UNESCO in 1995. The magic is in its people, the arid lands, the adventure, and probably the freshest sea-to-table that you have ever tried.

The love story with Cabo Pulmo started with Sam’s grandparents about 50 years ago who hopped in their RV and headed south from Mendocino California. When the road ended, they kept going, discovering Cabo Pulmo. Julia and Sam met seven years ago, and once Sam introduced Cabo Pulmo to Julia, it became their special place as well!

Planning Julia and Sam’s destination wedding celebrations in Cabo Pulmo reminded me of the reasons why I love planning weddings so much, and not having electricity and easy access to supply stores, boosted our creativity as well!

Four days of celebrations of Julia and Sam’s love included exploring and enjoying Cabo Pulmo as they love to do best: hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, and SUP. For the welcome party, we organized a casual dinner at an oceanfront restaurant La Palapa, with delicious Mexican food stations, catered by Salt and Sugar.

The production of their wedding day setup took us three days – but when you see the photos, you will see that it was worth it! The twinkle tent made for a truly magnificent wedding reception. And for the cocktail area, we dressed up an old ruin. Behind the beauty of it all, there was a challenge for all the providers, since on location there were not many services and no light, so we brought a big enough generator, which would be powerful enough to last through the days of montage, testing the light and all the equipment, as well as the wedding day.

The wedding ceremony took place at the point of Cabo Pulmo bay. Afterward, the mariachi guided all the guests to the old ruin, where we dressed up the abandoned window remains in greenery – it created a beautiful backdrop for the photographs! At the cocktail area, Lazy Gourmet Catering welcomed the guests with a station of tlayudas, canapes, and other Mexican favorites. Guests admitted the next day, that the food -from appetizers to dinner- was the highlight of their evening!

After the cocktail, guests entered the twinkling tent for a reception, dinner, and dancing. Julia changed into her second dress for their first dance, and DJ Alex was in charge to keep everyone on the dance floor afterward. The twinkling tent shone all night magnificently in the middle of the desert.

The design of Julia & Sam’s wedding under the stars was the unique twinkle tent, start constellations as centerpieces, and florals with an eclectic look combining wood, metal, and a touch of greenery.

Next day, Julia, Sam, and their parents welcomed everyone at the El Caballero restaurant for a delicious brunch. The four days of their wedding celebrations were a unique experience for all the guests. Sam’s parents and Sam, who have been coming to Cabo Pulmo since he was a little boy, were thrilled to share their small piece of paradise with their dearest. Sam and Julia now have Cabo Pulmo in their hearts forever, and I can’t wait for all the memories they will make here and the stories they will tell to the generations to come.

I enjoyed enormously planning their destination wedding, the meetings on their parents’ terrace overlooking the Sea of Cortez, and the final result – their magical destination wedding in Baja.

Beautiful! Does one require a permit to marry in Mexican national Parks?
